Welcome to the Atrómitos Way podcast. I am your host and producer, Liz Church. Each episode, we dive into the complexities of our health and social system, gaining the experiences and insights of the guests to shape our lives and our communities. And for the next couple of weeks, we'll be on a little hiatus from hearing from our unique guests.

Lungs, w t f; you get the gist. And today, my friends, we're going to be reading my piece A project 2025 and how we are not going back. If you know me, you know I have zero tolerance for bullies. I take Chris Evans version of Captain America and hold it on a pedestal, because today I feel like we need brave heroes against fascism more than ever.
00;01;33;08 - 00;02;22;19
Liz Church
Last week, my colleague Kate McNulty gave us a glimpse of how closely the United States is teetering towards it. And I'm going to take it a step further. Like many Americans, I am worried, tired and frustrated about this year's election. It's not an election for or against red and blue candidates, but between fascism and democracy. Thanks to the Harris Walls presidential campaign, progressive turnouts, and professional, mainstream and independent journalists, I'm sure many of you have seen the name of a playbook project 2025 and the headlines, this 922 page, ultra conservative volume is full of wrongheaded policies, clearly unconstitutional laws and unprecedented regulations or deregulation is a step by step implementation guide for the next Republican
00;02;22;19 - 00;02;48;03

administration. I learned about the playbook in 2023 and closely kept it on my radar. I didn't dare to read the flippin thing because in the beginning, well, the obvious. Earlier this summer, I changed my mind. I needed to know what was in this damning thing. I will be very frank with you. If this senator tell him about our nation's dark past is implemented, many people will suffer in many ways.
00;02;48;06 - 00;03;12;03
Liz Church
While the entirety of this fascist manual is appalling. I want to focus on how women, LGBTQ amenities, and our health care system could be impacted by dropping quotes with links from Defeat Project 2025, a volunteer group that has done a lot of the hard work to gain awareness about this thing. You can visit their site and learn more about what these monsters intend.
00;03;12;05 - 00;03;32;19
Liz Church
So please my friends, take care as you read. And for those of you listening to this through the audio version, I will be changing my voice as I read quotes to help differentiate which is me and which are these stupid policies from this stupid book.
00;03;32;21 - 00;04;20;21
Liz Church
On page 489, the US Department of Health and Human Services should return to being known as the Department of Life by explicitly rejecting the notion that abortion is health care and by restoring its mission statement under the strategic plan and elsewhere to include furthering the health and well-being of all Americans from conception to natural death. About abortion, specifically on page 455, because liberal states have now become sanctuaries for abortion, tourism, health and human services should use every available tool, including the cutting of funds, to ensure that every state reports exactly how many abortions take place within its borders, at what gestational age of the child, for what reason, the mother's state of residence, and by
00;04;20;21 - 00;05;02;07

what method. In addition, centers for Disease Control should require monitoring and reporting for complications due to abortion in every instance of children being born alive after abortion. Moreover, abortion should be clearly defined as only those procedures that intentionally end an unborn child's life. Miscarriage management or standard topic pregnancy treatments should never be conflated with abortion. And then on page 471, policymakers should end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood and all other abortion providers and redirect funding to health centers that provide real health care for women.
00;05;02;12 - 00;05;10;28
Liz Church
And then on page 472, Congress should pass the protecting Life and Taxpayers Act, which would accomplish the goal of defunding abortion providers.
00;05;11;04 - 00;05;39;26
Liz Church
Such as Planned Parenthood. Defeat product 2025 breakdown of this restricting access to abortion and reproductive health care would result in unsafe abortions, increased maternal mortality, and the negative physical and mental health outcomes for women. And this would clearly limit eight HIPAA protections regarding medical care sought in establish a national abortion database that the Health and Human Services could then use to pull funding from states.
00;05;39;28 - 00;05;42;09
Liz Church
You sound like great ideas, don't they?
00;05;42;12 - 00;06;29;02
Liz Church
Continuing onward to potential policies targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer plus individuals and communities. On page four of the foreword. The next conservative president must make the institutions of American society hard targets for a woke culture warriors. This starts with deleting the terms sexual orientation and gender identity. Diversity. Equity. Inclusion. Gender. Gender equality. Gender equity. Gender awareness, gender sensitive abortion, reproductive health, reproductive rights, and any other term used to deprive Americans of their First Amendment rights out of every federal rule agency, regulation, contract, grit, regulation, and piece of legislation that exist.
00;06;29;05 - 00;06;30;23
Liz Church
That's pretty interesting. That entire quote.
00;06;30;23 - 00;06;35;24
Liz Church
Didn't say anything about discrimination being wrong.
00;06;35;26 - 00;07;11;27
Liz Church
On page 451. Family is comprised of a married mother. Father and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden's Health and Human Services are fraught with agenda items. Focusing on LGB twoc plus equity, subsidizing single motherhood, dis incentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married nuclear families.
00;07;12;00 - 00;07;20;10
Liz Church
And lastly, on page 489, the Secretary, as the head of the Department of Life, the Secretary's.
00;07;20;10 - 00;07;21;27
Liz Church
Anti-Discrimination policy.
00;07;21;27 - 00;07;28;29
Liz Church
Statements should never conflate sex with gender identity or sexual orientation. Rather, the Secretary should proudly.
00;07;28;29 - 00;07;31;03
Liz Church
State that men and women.
00;07;31;05 - 00;07;44;11
Liz Church
Are biological realities that are crucial to the advancement of life sciences, medical care, and that married men and women are the ideal natural family structure because all children have the right to be raised by the man and woman who.
00;07;44;11 - 00;08;05;07
Liz Church
Conceived them. I have a lot of things that I can say about this section, but I'm going to hold because in a couple of weeks you are going to hear a conversation with the returning guests to their Drama Way podcast, miss Joy Smith. We're going to be talking about how this broadly impacts marginalized communities, and we're going to talk about what that says.
00;08;05;09 - 00;08;40;29
Liz Church
This is what this means and how it will impact our health care. But project 2025 goes on and talks about a lot more egregious stuff. Project 2025 also details dismantling our Department of Defense and the Federal Bureau of Investigations, annihilating our climate change efforts now being dubbed by certain members as weird Science, and privatizing government agencies like the National Weather Service and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.
00;08;41;01 - 00;09;04;04
Liz Church
And by the way, because it's timely, the National Weather Service and NOAA were the ones responsible for telling us that Hurricane Helene was coming. So I want you to take a moment and think about what that means. If we did not have it. The elimination of the Department of Education would happen because it's unnecessary. Affordable housing opportunities would plummet.
00;09;04;06 - 00;09;35;05
Liz Church
Medicare and Medicaid would cease to exist. The Veterans Administration would be slashed. Tax hikes for the lower and middle class would cripple millions of people living some into poverty, while millionaires continue reaping the benefits. Schedule F the proposal to fill government agencies with political loyalists rather than qualified, nonpartisan experts. Many of the policy goals and project 2025 are mean, cruel and outright humane.
00;09;35;08 - 00;10;03;14
Liz Church
Do you want to move our nation forward into the future of opportunities for all, or drag it back 150 years into the unfair and undemocratic past? Americans throw around the word freedom, but they never think about the possibility it can be taken away. As Kate McNulty says, let's allow each other to be American in the most American way possible by living our lives our way, and respectfully allowing others to do the same.
00;10;03;17 - 00;10;27;18
Liz Church
So, my friends, we are not going back. We have less than a month, you guys. 27 days until the November 5th election. And, there's a lot of negative words that we can feel. But I'm trying to be hopeful. Trying to be hopeful. Early voting has started in many states and in North Carolina. It will be happening in a little over a week.
00;10;27;20 - 00;10;53;07
Liz Church
So I want to say to all of you that our voters, thank you so much for being a voter. Your friends and family, though they may need your reminder to vote. Please ask them to vote in the Tuesday, November 5th election. And next week, my friends, we will have our last reading of our worry tired frustrated series. So look forward to it and see you all then.
