Liz Church
Hello and welcome to the Atrómitos Sway podcast. I'm your host and producer, Liz Church. This year we held a lot of big conversations and bold ideas with our guests in season two and season three of The Atrómitos Way podcast. Within this space, we've been privileged to celebrate the individuals and organizations making change possible around the nation. But as we know, 2024 also has been a year of uncertainty challenge.

00;00;29;01 - 00;01;13;18
Liz Church
And for many, heartbreak. The outcome of the recent presidential election has left many people feeling afraid, worried and exhausted. If that's you, I. I want you to know that you're not alone. It took me weeks to write this out for you all to get back on the podcast, find that meeting again, because I have spent the last two weeks or so grieving, worried about what this country could become, and saddened that it is not what I thought it could be, but in reality it can be if we work hard enough to make it happen.

00;01;13;21 - 00;01;41;18
Liz Church
I joined BlueSky recently just because I wanted another outlet that wasn't just solely "meh." And there was this quote that popped up in the news feed. It was by a Russian author from the late, you can say late 19th century Leo Tolstoy. "If you feel pain, you are alive. If you feel other people's pain, you are a human being."

00;01;41;20 - 00;02;04;21
Liz Church
And that's what I'm trying to rely on right now, that I am a human being that wants to do more, that wants to do better. So that's what's going to keep me going. And maybe that's what May brought me back to the podcast. At Atrómitos's, we believe in the power of people. We the people know that people hold power in their ability to instill change.

00;02;04;24 - 00;02;26;20
Liz Church
We believe that change doesn't only come from the top. It comes from every corner of our communities, from every local group fighting for equity to every individual who decides to show up and do something, no matter how small it might feel. Like all of you, we added, Romulus also need to recharge, refocus, and most importantly, reconnect with the work that drives us.

00;02;26;23 - 00;02;53;22
Liz Church
So we'll be taking a break. But don't worry, we're not going anywhere permanently. We will be changing how we tell stories here on the Drama Display podcast, and hopefully they will give you insight in the hope you need to make it through the tunnel on the other side and doing the good work at a dose. We're doubling down on our efforts to work locally, support organizations that are having an impact, and strengthen the connections that make all this possible.

00;02;53;25 - 00;03;18;03
Liz Church
I want to encourage you to do the same. And if you're feeling hopeless right now, take a breath. I know where you all are. I'm there too. But you need to remember that you have power, and many of the most impactful changes often begin closest to home. Start where you are. Use what you have and trust that your actions matter.

00;03;18;05 - 00;03;39;26
Liz Church
You know you can attend a town hall meeting. Volunteer your time with a community group that shares your values or, you know, simply have a conversation with your neighbors who may not share your political views. And I know that's going to be hard, but we got to have the conversation because when we work together, we amplify each other's voices.

00;03;39;29 - 00;04;02;21
Liz Church
And that's how we move forward. So I encourage all of you to go back to the very beginning and listen to our guests. We've talked about maternal health care, the fight against loneliness, health literacy, rebuilding homes, treating homelessness, food insecurity, the youth and veteran mental health crisis, LGBTQ rights and I mean, we have a catalog of hope, you guys.

00;04;02;23 - 00;04;29;29
Liz Church
So go back and listen to them. So as we close out 2024 and look ahead to the new Year, I want to thank you for sharing this journey with us. And we will be back stronger, more focused and ready to keep fighting for a world where health care and human services are accessible, affordable and equitable for all. So until then, take care of yourselves and each other and remember that together we have the power to make a difference.

00;04;30;01 - 00;04;35;21
Liz Church
I'll see you on the other side.

00;04;35;23 - 00;04;59;02
